Privacy Policy

Last updated August 11, 2026

How Stories Abroad handles your information, in plain language. This policy covers what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short and honest on purpose.

1. What we collect

The essentials to run your account: your name, email, and password (stored securely, never in plain text). Your learning data: the words you save, your streak and XP, your learning-style profile, and anything you write in the journal. Basic technical data your device sends, like which pages loaded, so we can fix problems.

2. Why we use it

To run the app: sign you in, sync your progress across devices, and tailor lessons to how you learn best. To keep the service working and safe. To contact you about your account, for example, reminders you've turned on. We do not sell your personal information.

3. Where it lives

Your data is stored with our hosting and database provider (currently Supabase) on secure servers. We use industry-standard protections, but no online service can promise perfect security. Please use a strong, unique password.

4. Sharing

We share data only with the service providers that help us run the app (such as hosting and, in the future, email delivery or payment processing), and only as much as they need to do their job. We may share information if the law requires it. Rankings show only what you choose to make public.

5. Your choices

You can view and edit your profile, export the gist of your data, and delete your account, which removes your personal data, at any time. You can turn reminders on or off. If you're in a region with privacy laws like the GDPR or CCPA, you have the right to access, correct, or erase your data; reach out and we'll help.

6. Children

The app is meant for general audiences. We don't knowingly collect data from young children without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we'll remove it.

7. Changes and contact

We'll update this policy as the app grows and note the date at the top. Questions about your privacy? Reach out through the app's support contact and we'll explain things plainly.
