Terms of Service
Last updated August 11, 2026
Plain-language terms for using Stories Abroad. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. Please read them; they explain your rights, how paid plans work, and what you can expect from us.
1. The short version
Stories Abroad is an app for learning a language by reading real stories. You are welcome to use it to learn. In return, please use it honestly and don't misuse it. That's the whole spirit of these terms; the sections below just spell out the details.
2. Your account
You create an account with an email address and a password so your progress, the words you save, your streak, your learning-style profile, can follow you across devices. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
You must be old enough to agree to these terms in your country. If you are a child, please ask a parent or guardian to set up and supervise your account.
3. Using the app fairly
Please don't try to break, overload, or reverse-engineer the service, resell it, or use it to harm others. Don't upload content that is illegal, hateful, or that isn't yours to share. We may pause or close an account that abuses the service.
The stories, lessons, artwork, and software are ours (or licensed to us). You get a personal, non-transferable right to use them for your own learning, not to copy or redistribute them.
4. Your content
Anything you write in the app, journal entries, notes, saved words, belongs to you. You give us permission to store and display it back to you so the app can work. We don't sell it, and we don't claim ownership of it.
5. Free and paid features
Some features are free and some require a paid subscription. The price and billing period are shown clearly before you pay, and you are only charged after you confirm. Payments are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store your full card details.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until you cancel. You can cancel any time from your account settings; cancellation stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Except where the law gives you a refund right, payments are generally non-refundable, though we may offer a refund at our discretion. If we change a subscription price, we will tell you in advance, and the new price only applies to billing periods after the change.
6. The app is provided “as is”
We work hard to keep the app accurate and available, but we can't promise it will be perfect or never go down. Language learning is up to you, the app is a tool, not a guarantee of fluency. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or unexpected losses from using the app.
7. Changes and ending
We may update these terms as the app grows; if a change is significant we'll make a reasonable effort to let you know. You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. If you keep using the app after a change, that counts as accepting the new terms.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a dispute arises, we would rather sort it out directly, so please contact us first and we will try to resolve it fairly.
9. Contact
Questions about these terms? Reach out through the app's support contact. We're happy to explain anything in plain language.
