Refund and Cancellation Policy
Last updated September 1, 2026
Stories Abroad is a digital subscription, so there is nothing physical to return. This page explains, in plain language, how the free trial works, how to cancel, and when you can get a refund. It is part of, and consistent with, our Terms of Service.
1. The short version
Reading is always free. The paid subscription starts with a 7-day free trial, and you are not charged if you cancel before the trial ends. After that, you are billed for the period you chose (monthly or yearly), and it renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
We want you to feel good about your purchase. If something went wrong, or you were charged by mistake, email us and we will make it right.
2. Your 7-day free trial
New subscriptions begin with a 7-day free trial. If you cancel any time during the trial, you are not charged. If you do not cancel, your subscription begins and your card or Apple account is charged at the end of the trial, at the price shown before you signed up.
3. Cancelling your subscription
You can cancel any time. On the web, open your account settings and manage your subscription there. On iPhone and iPad, cancel from your Apple account subscriptions in the Settings app.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep full access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again after that.
4. Refunds for web payments (Stripe)
If you subscribed on the web, payments are handled by Stripe. Renewal payments are generally non-refundable once the new period has started, because cancelling already stops all future charges and you keep access to the end of the current period.
That said, we handle refund requests fairly and case by case. If you were charged by mistake, charged twice, could not use the service because of a problem on our side, or simply forgot to cancel right after a renewal and have not really used the new period, email us and we will usually refund it. Approved web refunds go back to your original payment method, normally within five to ten business days.
5. Refunds for purchases on Apple devices
If you subscribed through the iOS app, Apple handles the billing, and refunds for those purchases are requested from and issued by Apple, not by us. To ask for one, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, or open the App Store, tap your account, and choose your purchase history.
We are still happy to help you understand your options, so feel free to email us either way.
6. Refunds the law requires
Some places give you a refund right that this policy cannot take away. For example, consumers in the EU and UK may have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. Where a law that applies to you gives you a refund or cancellation right, that right always applies, on top of anything offered here.
7. No physical returns
Stories Abroad is a digital service. There are no physical goods, shipments, or returns. Everything above is about your subscription only.
8. How to reach us
To cancel and request a refund, or if you have any question about a charge, email us at contact@storiesabroad.com. Please include the email on your account and roughly when you were charged, so we can find it quickly. We usually reply within a day or two.
